Exhibit Hall

Our main gallery space featuring rotating displays drawn from Buttonwoods’ permanent collection, highlighting Greater Haverhill’s rich cultural and industrial history.

The Exhibit Hall is housed in the Duncan House — Buttonwoods’ main building, built in 1814 as a fine example of a rural Federal-style mansion. The galleries occupy a later addition to the house and serve as the primary rotating exhibition space for the museum’s extensive permanent collection.

Spanning over 375 years of Haverhill’s history, the collection includes domestic objects, decorative arts, textiles, furnishings, military artifacts, shoes and shoemaking tools, archaeological artifacts from the Frederick A. Luce Collection, and the Moody Collection — documenting the life of Supreme Court Justice William H. Moody, who served under President Theodore Roosevelt.

The Exhibit Hall’s rotating displays bring different facets of Greater Haverhill’s past into focus throughout the season. Check the Events Calendar for information on current and upcoming exhibitions.
